The study visit «Through Volunteering to Peace Promotion: Realities of Youth/Community Work & Volunteering» will last 6 days (excluding travel days) and will be held in two different cities of the Czech Republic: Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, and Cesky Krumlov, the UNESCO World Heritage site, in order to show different parts of the Czech Republic.
Volunteering as an approach, as a life strategy is a powerful tool to change people’s lives, to enrich, to fill, to extend the borders of «heart and mind». As a tool volunteering has great opportunity to contribute to peace promotion though every day activities, through longer commitments, through collaboration. Participants of the project are 31 representatives of 13 partner organizations working on peace promotion through youth/community engagement and volunteering via different approaches. The promoters have different experience in volunteering management due to different personal, professional and state backgrounds; however all of them have the desire to come together for study visit in order to change the situation in peace promotion back to their communities and worldwide.
Through facilitated open space approach we would have the possibility to explore each others organizations and situations in our communities, to share the good and bad practices of volunteering and peace promotion, to learn from each others methods and tools used to promote peace back in our communities, and to work on a common project – brochure on peace promotion through volunteering – which will be available online for partners involved and general public – to help and support other initiatives with our common knowledge. Therefore, the main aim of the activity is to contribute to greater understanding of volunteering as a tool for further common work of partner organizations and their communities, as well as for the general public, via the brochure created at the end of the study visit.
To achieve this aim we state the following objectives:
-to introduce the reality of the region /Czech Republic and Prague as the capital/ in regards to youth/community work, possibilities of volunteering and connection to peace promotion;
-to visit and meet diverse organizations /working with different target groups/ that work in this field in the chosen region;
-to get introduced in the theory on volunteering and peace promotion;
-to exchange good/bad practices and experiences of partner organizations in relation to volunteering management and peace promotion;
-to explore the benefits and impacts of volunteering;
-to work on competencies of youth workers by sharing the best practices and peer-learning;
-to work on a common project – brochure on peace promotion through volunteering – which will be available for all the promoter involved and general public;
-to contribute to greater understanding of volunteering as a tool in youth/community work in our communities/countries/Worldwide.
