ΠΕΡΙΓΡΑΦΗ ΠΡΟΓΡΑΜΜΑΤΟΣ

The main idea of the Youth Exchange“C.IV.E.T. – CreatIVe Eco Thinking” spring up from the fact that today big urban areas are hot spots that drive environmental change at multiple scale where global environmental changes are swamped by various changes in the local environment. Today, different approaches on the topic of eco-sustainability and changing planet is more than needed in the education system especially If we are talking about younger generation that are facing global challenges in their everyday lives. Those can be related to population, climate, economy, resource use, communication, urbanization, pollution, health, etc., almost everything connected with our lives. That’s why we need to find a creative approach while facing problems and develop the capacity for adaptation to the changes in environment which an uncertain future may bring.

The active involvement of the participants, together with locals will be an opportunity for an interesting eco-cross-cultural exchange. Participants will meet a group of local volunteers from different non-profit cultural associations from Perugia, who use the recycling art in everyday life to express themselves. In that way, they will have the opportunity to see how to develop a project of recycling art and the possible impact of this kind of initiatives on the local environment. This approach will enhance the international dimension of youth activities and promote young people’s social inclusion and well-being. Besides, developing basic and transversal skills through innovative and learner-centred pedagogical approaches (ex: teamwork, responsibility, decision making, communication, leadership, multilingualism, problem solving, organisation management, etc.) will strongly enhance their employability and the entrance in the labour market. A creative problem solving is a method of finding innovative approaches for problem resolution, and the art sector connected to recycling issues can be a platform to teach us how to acquire those skills growing in exploring the possible roles of arts and cultures as catalysts in contemporary processes of social and cultural transformations.

In this context, participants and youth leaders will be invited to think about changes in urban societies, encounter of different cultures and global environmental challenges that we are going to face, and use the artistic approach to create a new product generated from recycled material. We believe that the context gives an ideal support to stimulate the participation of young people in understanding global challenges and respect cultural diversity as cities are becoming the main actors of multicultural changes. Using a creative approach we want to improve the level of key competences and skills of young people, including those with fewer opportunities, stimulate the intercultural dialogue between the participants and in that way raise their level of social inclusion and solidarity.

Project Activities

The project activity dates will last from 19th (Arrival day) to 26th (Departure day) of January 2015 in Perugia, Italy. The activities are planned for six full days. Participants will be encouraged to build skills using the «learning by doing» methods based on their own subjective experience. This means that during the implementation of the activities the participants will have the chance to be actively involved in all the phases of the exchange. To develop a successful project, the structure of the programme has been created in order to improve the group cohesion of the participants, their communication skills, group dynamics, and knowledge of environment-friendly behaviour based on values of equality and the acceptance of diversity.
